Hunger Games

Anyone out there ever seen The Hunger Games? Show of hands? Kidding, this is the Internet… Anyways, the Hunger Games in Minecraft are pretty awesome. Rules are basic: survive, and don’t destroy blocks (except mushrooms).

There are several hidden chests (well, some are pretty obvious) around the map with random gear. The trick is that you never know what you might find in the chests. It may be something you need; a sword, food…but it may also be something that you already have or really can’t think of a practical use to help you.

The chests can be hidden almost any place, but the most obvious ones are at the spawn. Also, it’s pretty certain that if you happen to find really large trees, you’ll also find a chest nearby.

At the beginning of the game, you are in a circle and cannot move at first, but then in the chat, the time to beginning begins as it counts down from 10-9-8-7…. At 1, you and every other person playing have one goal in mind: Rush the Chest! Don’t waste any time here – rush the chests in the middle, and take everything you can, and I mean EVERYTHING. A bowl.  Golden helmet.  Leather sword. If that is all you could grab, that’s all you will have to help you until you find the next chest.

Just like the movie The Hunger Games, the goal is to be the last man (or woman, or kid…) standing. Each item you grab from a chest can be used for all kinds of things, but there is a way to make it easier to win and to get things you need: you can join together with other players and pool your gear together to survive longer.  It is a little off that you can join up with others and work together when you know that there is no such thing as a “group” winning the game. There is only one winner, and yeah, you know you want it to be you! So you need to decide if you want to go it alone, or work with others. But you always have to play to win.

As the game moves along and there are fewer and fewer people left, you will get to a point where, if you are in a group, you are going to have to kill off whoever is left. That’s the part that seems strange. But, hey, you want to win!
